Reports to: Design Field Engineering Manager/Sr. Design Field Engineer


Description: Design Field Engineering's responsibility is the improvement of parts quality with a focus on market issues. 

Field Engineer responsibilities include Investigation, data analysis, parts analysis, drawing/3D-CAD analysis and report documentation for quality issues and market claims.

Field Engineer will also support to study countermeasure ideas and monitor effectiveness of the countermeasures.




  • Work directly with the customer's field quality group and design departments.
  • Address and fulfill customer investigation requests, after consulting Design Field Engineering Manager.
  • Determine root cause for quality defects of parts that were provided by KNA.
  • Provide oral presentations, when needed to the customer on KNA related issues.
  • Feedback to KNA Plants, KNA Design, KNA other departments and Supplier on quality issues discovered in the field.
  • Support data collection and interpretation to coordinate improvement efforts.
  • Inspect/test materials/parts for aesthetic and dimensional accuracy.
  • Produce reports regarding root cause analyses, market trends, and any other report needed during an investigation.
  • Follow established work practices that support compliance with all company policies, safety standards, 5S practices, regulatory and/or customer requirements.
  • Authorities for an employee are granted by means of work instructions, policies and procedures and/or direction provided by management to meet the requirements of the customer.
  • Produce and/or evaluate possible design solutions to improve cost, quality, delivery, and performance on specialized knowledge of engineering applications together with possible involvement of other functional engineers and/or customer/supplier personne
  • Provide technical design support to sales, product engineering, manufacturing, and quality organizations.



Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience with engineering tools and systems.
  • Ability to speak Spanish or Japanese helpful, but not required.



  • Experience working with Windows operating system as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), V-Ridge or Catia experience preferred, but not required
  • Capable of using basic measurement devices such as micrometers, calipers, and
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, etc....


Training Specific to Position:

  • OJT (On the job training) by the team leader or Sr. Field Engineer



  • Ability to travel for short periods of time with limited prior notice
  • Ability to work effectively and independently with minimum supervision
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written


Work Environment:

This job operates in an office and manufacturing environment, and routinely uses standard office equipment.  The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.  Ability to work in the thermostat chambers/room from -400C to 700C.


Physical Demands:

  • Exertion of physical strength to move objects (up to 40lbs) from one level to another.
  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color
  • The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, and walk for sustained periods of time.
  • The employee may be required to work in hot temperatures.
